Former Labour MP Nick Palmer signs on

Nick Palmer, a former Labour MP for Broxstowe, who spent 13 years in Parliament and speaks 6 languages, has a PhD in maths and loves topping up his huge former MP salary and MP expenses doing surveys at approx £50 per time, is reported to be signing on for Jobseekers Allowance.Nick Palmer, 60, who also has a Msc, was a computer scientist, developed an old computer game, has written 3 books, won a boardgame championship (2007), co-founded Flagship magazine and has a disability.
Not your average jobseeker. He already has a £60 per week freelance job so wont be getting more than £5 per week in benefits – claims he is doing this for an “experience” and to get NI contributions (Does he really need them?).
I do wonder how someone who deems to be a successful person could only make £60 a week.
As for an MP…
Voted very strongly for Labour’s anti-terrorism laws.
Voted very strongly for the Iraq war.
Voted very strongly against an investigation into the Iraq war.
Voted strongly for more EU integration.
Voted strongly for introducing ID cards.
Voted very strongly for allowing ministers to intervene in inquests.
Sounds like an absolute arsehole!
Comments welcome (in particular on:)
- Any other MPs known to have signed on
- Criticism to former MPs/high earners claiming JSA/NICs
- Whether his “experience” will be genuine
- Low income from high skills
- How long would he stick it? (until retirement or less than few months?)
(some suggestions, others welcome)

Judging by his voting record he was a New Labour supporter. I regard MPs like him as absolute scum, they have destroyed the Labour party
Like all the “pilot” 2 week trials (seen on various TV Documentaries)his experience will be neither real or valid.Does this MP have less than 3k in the bank I wonder? How can he be entitled to any allowance? and will he be sent on a 2Flexible” ha!ha! New Deal boot camp?
I sent a letter to David Cameron pointing out the unfairness and intellectual inconsistency in “Skills & Training” and the contraventions against Human Rights leaving someone without ANY money to live on,other than being contradictory to “helping you get back to work” and his lacky wrote back telling me he had passed my comments on to the DWP! What a cop out,the DWP already know what they are doing Mr Cameron and so do you. I will be writing to Mr Cameron inviting him to a TV Channel of his choice to discuss his pre elected statement “Real help for those who genuinely want to work” I wonder if he will accept? The Flexible New Deal is a Labour legacy that Mr Cameron has no stomach to face up to or deal with…evidently. What a crock of ****!
