I returned to England on the 6th May 2010, but did not go to jobcentre until the 10th. I was given a number to call and give all my information in, a month later, they sent me a letter saying ‘i had not paid enough national tax contributions’ to get JSA, of course not, i had been in America for three years. I didn’t know what to do so i ‘phoned the Community Action Line, they called the office dealing with my claim, they told the lady from CAL that i had failed my ‘habitual residency test’. My wife is still in the USA, i plan to bring her over as soon as i’m settled. I called the office yesterday and they said my review(received by them on the 19th June) hadn’t been looked at and it may take a few weeks. By then, my appeal time will have exceeded the stipulated 1 month and i will be back to square one. Still have not had any money off them. They just seem to be as uncompromising as possible, if i was black, illegally here and had committed a crime in my own country, they would be waiting for me with money, deeds to a new home and clothing allowance. Is this the way British people (born and bred here) are to be treated? What should i do, been supported by family since i came, but with no prospect of any job or financial assistance, they will tire, then what ?? Might be easier to go to prison and then, when i came out, i would be a resident!

Bulls*** … you see that’s why your broke ass don’t have nothing ? you too quick to blame your OWN hardship on other’s ie, on Black peeps … now if we say that kinda crap , were just branded lazy ? …. who says we get everything ? because i don’t get nothing special ??? …with that blame it on the next person mentality you will always be poor or hard up … Privilege is selfishly reserved for the wealthy and the Elites running this whole corrupt global system … what you think they really care about any of us ? … you just gotta work and hustle to survive … i suggest you do the same . smh

Thats a hard one to answer I would certainly give the CAB a try. You could also try asking about hardship funds. Income support.

Your in for a very rude awakening my friend they don’t much care for anything, disabilities gender you name it they dont care. And i do agree with your statement if you were an illegal immigrant or here under more serrupticious means you would get money,

Do Jobcentre Plus get “mystery customers”? Or do certain services have a feedback questionnaire?

I was down my local Jobcentre Plus Office in Ipswich the other day and it was clear about how the staff treated different people in different ways.

Anyone who spoke English including anyone of different race and nationalities were treated rather rudely and crap.
Anyone who spoke very broken English (and were not English nationality) and wanted a NINO appointment (not advice on JSA/ESA, to sign on etc.) were treated much better.

Although not racism, it was clear they were “special” people who were obtaining a National Insurance number (attending a NINO appointment) where the staff were very friendly, provided service with a smile and even guided them where to go.

Anyone asking for advice (Customer: “Hello, Can you please tell me how I can claim Jobseekers Allowance?”; Staff: (no smile) “Press button X on a phone over there”; Customer: “Thank you very much” – Although the instructions were clear, what also was clear as it seems to be a task of providing the quickest responses; I might understand this at busy times, but there was no queue; there was no smile, there was no greater length response or one containing “please” or other polite words, and there was no “you’re welcome”, “no problem”, “happy to help”, smile or other response to the customer politeness other than walking off down to the other side of the building) were given very poor service.

Anyone signing on, with exceptions to “customers” and staff who are friendly with each other, and of course when a member of staff fancies a “customer”, got a response such as “down to the bottom”, “go sit at the bottom left” and “wait at the front” after giving their ES40 signing on booklet.

Thanks Kyron, ‘phoned about hardship loans and the woman said bacause of not being a habitual resident, i’m not entitled to it. The income Support suggestion, well, the same thing there lol. Think they just want all the Engish to go to some other country, might be a good idea — i can say i’ll be harassed if i return to England and then claim Asylum somewhere. The CAB sounds like a great option, maybe my MP also thanks for the input.

Hi Andrew. Not A problem I hope they can get something sorted out for you. Please let us know how you get on and spread the word about this site. The more people that become aware of what is going on the more people can stand up and fight.

Yes Kyron, They certainly need to review the cases, (not just talking about mine here), as there are many people returning here and to have to go through being treated as a second class person in your own country, especially when anyone from Europe is automatically entitled to benefits, is a disgrace. I think they shouls pull out of the EEC, stop paying billions into the Brussels coffers and meekly bowing to their ever stupid laws i.e. no curved bananas and then see how many Europeans choose to dwell in this country when THEY are penalised for coming here. When you look for the people that are exempt from the HRT, it is amazing! IF i had been deported from the USA, i would have been IMMEDIATELY given benefits, so all you expats, take note of this sentence.
