Action for Employment founder and chairperson Emma Harrison discussion regarding scams: with video!
OK, this probably isn’t some hidden cam recording of her admitting policies of a4e as you were expecting; this is mostly to gain traffic for the blog – yes I like to remain honest, I came across this when watching the A4e Hitler video on YouTube, so I thought I would share…
Connexions Nottingham have an interview with Emma Harrison regarding setting up in business. You can watch the video (as below) – I have quickly typed some commentry on it, they may not be exact quotes but you can find out by watching the video.

…but you have started already, sorta finding out ways you can earn money, rather than relying on other people, its a good start, yeah…
Opinion
She doesn’t exactly persuade the young person not to do “scams” she then goes on to say that she started a legal tuck shop at age 9, took me a second to understand what she meant. I think it was 9 not19.
Why would she say “legal”? She talked about when she was in education doing small businesses on the side to make money then how after university she had the confidence of doing it proper – perhaps she meant moving in to the dark side of business? Most people would have said relying on other people for money i.e. an employer, would be a better route to take then doing scams.
Her pointers on starting a business (not exact quotes, summarised a little by me):
- finding something you are really really interested in
- find something you want to change the world a little bit
- find something that makes you angry, that you can feel you can do better, that could be a good start of a business
Let me state what also she said in the interview (stay awake it could be a little confusing) she went to do A Levels for Medicine, later done an OND / diploma or something in engineering but was worried she wouldnt get married and then later decided after University to setup business in providing employment opportunities.
Whereas I realise the roots of A4e was partially related to engineering due to loss of jobs in Sheffield etc. you can’t really state that she is very focused in whats he wants to do.
Why is A4e crap?

career lessons were crap
I guess Emma Harrison is still influenced or traumatised by the whole thing.
How she gains credibility…
Nope, not by stating that she is the chairperson of the largest New Deal provider, a multi-million pound turnover business etc. but because she is female (I think…) and holds a degree in engineering somehow she thinks she is god.
Or possibly it is to distract you from Action 4 Employment for a little while…

There are several versions of Emma Harrison’s story of how she begun including being left a small Sheffield training company by her father, rather than setting it up from scratch!
